Majestic Mountainous Masterpiece, 19th Century

An incredibly palpable and very large, (77 1/2" x 55 1/2") scenic 19th century landscape painting by Christopher H. Schearer, (1840-1926) a well-know
American landscape artist. This painting had been deaccessioned from The Reading Public Museum, in Pennsylvania in 2005 and has been in private
collection ever since. He is known primarily for his very large landscapes of the Berks County countryside. The artist signed and dated the painting, C.H.
Shearer, 1891. He is listed in "Who was Who in American Art", Fieldings "Dictionary of American Art", and William Gerts' "Art Across America", and "Art of
Berks County: An Overview 1850-1920."  Excellent original condition. Shows no inpainting under blacklight with the exception of a quarter size area in the
upper sky. Due to it's large size, the canvas was laid down on board while in the museum's care.

War of 1812

An exceptional depiction of the USS Constitution in an early
19th c. naval engagement from the War of 1812. Both
vessels are under full sail with wartime ensigns and battle
streamers. The British vessel is flying the battle flag of the
period, known as 'St. Georges Ensign'. It consists of a white
field with a broad St. Georges cross with the union flag in the
canton (upper left) and was only flown by a man-of-war
vessel while at sea during wartime. The USS Constitution is
depicted flying the 15 star 15 stripe navy jack signed into
commission by Thomas Jefferson in 1808 and regularly flown
by 'Old Ironsides" throughout the war. An exquisite and
historical rendering from a pivotal timeframe of American
history. The painting is housed in a custom gilt frame
Measuring 65 1/2" by 34"
